Meesh Duru is a singer from Edinburg, Texas whose creative process is fueled by authenticity, independence and freedom. Her goals are to awaken the souls who tune in to tune into themselves to find their inner truth. This is why most of her music supports a relaxed state of mind. "I love my music because it touches the soul and allows me to use words and frequencies that can raise vibrations."
Meesh began singing in her church choir at the age of five alongside her musical family members and friends. The first time she recorded a song was the six years ago when her uncle gifted her a microphone for Christmas. "Having my uncle Nick in my life has inspired me greatly. I would ride with my mom six hours from Washington DC to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina to watch him and his band perform live in front of large crowds," Meesh says. "He was only 20 years old and still in college when he released his first album with HisImage."
Throughout her life, Meesh has looked to her family's musical legacy for inspiration. "I have witnessed many of my own family members completely change the mood of an environment by using their voice—a God-given instrument."
In addition to music, Meesh styles dreadlocks in order to help people along their hair growth journey as she funds her future career as a full-time musician. She began learning about making locs in 2011 when she realized that her natural hair was being white-washed, and ultimately progressed to honing in her skills to the point of creating her beloved and coveted hair business, ‘Dread House’ where she specializes in maintenence care, styles, extensions, repairs, and more. Whether it be through music or through hair-styling, Meesh channels her creativity "so that my energy can live forever... [and] enhance the lives of each being that crosses my path."
Meesh has called the Rio Grande Valley home for the past nine years and is a firm believer that all black lives are to be honored and valued. "I am the change that I want to see in the Valley."

BACK IN THE VALLEY - MEESH DURU

"I created this song to create a sense of pride in the Rio Grand Valley area of Texas. I love living here and invite natives and foreigners to enjoy it as much as I do. Much love!"

NOBODY KNOWS - MEESH DURU

This beat was created by Andre Mego a friend and Valley native. This song was written and sang by me and it’s about the unraveling of a secret love interest. This is so juicy, just wait until you hear the full story...

RAN INTO YOU - MEESH DURU

"As I lay in bed, I began to feel tension all over my body so much that I couldn’t shake it. I didn’t know what to do... I then remembered that my own singing heals my body. It was a signal to sing and this is what came from it. This freestyle was made while laying down in my bed with my laptop and mic."

"This client allowed me to freestyle this style for her. I love how neat it looks. You can see all the parts perfectly. It’s puts me at ease to see hair being cared for."

"Another angle view of the loc freestyle I created."

"Here is a child whose parent allows him to express himself by continuing to grow his dreadlocks. I retightened them for him and this way picture was taken by yours truly."

"I started my own locs and have been having them since March of 2014. It has been a beautiful journey. Love them! They’re getting so long..."
